I have a small amount of oil round my transmission gearbox and the dealer tells me this is normal and wont ever be a problem. Can anyone advise if this is true or bullshit?

It is never normal to have a leak. Try not to rely too much on what a dealer will tell you.

From what I hear , modern Landrover and Freelander gearboxes are nothing but trouble

it's Bullshit. Your gearbox/transmission should be dry as a bone............
