G'day Dawn C,

Thanks for the question.

Generally if scientists find that one of their hypothesis's doesn't stack up, they generally keep quiet about it. It wouldn't be very interesting anyway. For example, I don't think an editor would hold the front page for a story "Scientist fails to cure cancer". Generally, the same is true of most occupations unless their failure is particularly noteworthy.

Regards

when scientists do not find anything, they tell no one. They only tell people when they do find something(and usually, when they find that something didn't work, they tell publish an article about it anyway: when thomas eddison failed 10.000 times to make the light bulb, he found 10.000 ways of not making a light bulb. That's the idea).

I believe what yuo wanted to ask is whether or not scientists have found something interesting and never told the public... (and not the oposite, as litteraly asked in your question... my advice: read/check your question before posting it)

there is as much proof of that as proof the existence of god (or it's non-existence, for that matter) : none.
You can neither prove it nor disprove it since one of your hypothesis is that the scientists didn't tell anyone. And if someone doesn't tell anyone he found something interesting, then he will probably destroy all proof with that: you created an hypothetical situation that cannot be proved either true or false. Congratulations: this question is completely useless.

However, scientists have everything to gain by saying to the world what they found: fame, a nobel prize, more money than they could ever spend... That kind of things. So if a scientist hid his discoreries, it would either be because he's raving mad or because what he discovered was "bad"(like a neutron bomb or something)

PS: not cranky at all: just that your hypothesis can't be proven either way. It's a non-question.

Probably not.
Although, the reason science still exists as a discipline is because all the questions have not been answered, so in that sense scientists have not found what they are looking for. I think the public already knows.

Recently we were told that scientists will have more planets added to our solar system, from 9 to 12 and probably more. How many more, they probably have some ideas but the public doesn't yet know.

What kind of daft question is that?
What are "they" looking for in the first place?

Even if "they" have found it, there could be any number of reasons not to go public; more work is needed, it will be patented, commercial non-disclosure.

On the other hand, if you are talking nutty conspiracy theories like "Area 51" or the moon landings - get a life.

Well how would we know if there is no proof? Well yes - speculation - they might have a lot of secrets not divulged to public as yet

Science is the most open skeptical pursuit made by man on this earth.

Cover ups and lies come from politics.

Of course you will always find individual exceptions but science is a pure pursuit

Proof of what? Proof that you can't properly ask a question? Then, yes.
