Right at the time of swallowing nasopharynx reflexly closes tight to prevent air from entering into esophagus..At other times air can enter.

Yes. There is a disorder called aerophagia where people actually swallow too much air while eating and get very bad stomach pains.

Its not supposed to, but often occurs for a variety of reasons. Overeating or gulping is most common. People who have emphysema inadvertently suck it down because of heavier breathing and post-stroke patients do it because they may have lost their ability to coordinate swallowing. Even babies with colic can do it. Its called 'aerophagia.'

Yes, that's one of the major reasons people burp. Most of it doesn't get too far though.

As we drink and swallow, we engulf air and if we engulf sufficient, we burp or belch. It may trigger hiccups.

well...it does and if you are having a bad day, you will fart a lot !! normally, you will just burp and release out the air....
