I'm a Brit and am proud to be one. I'm proud of my country and my countrymen, but why is it other nationalities seem to hate us, or is it just a case of being sensitive?

I am also British I originate from Manchester, I spent A long time over sea's while in the forces, and always found the people wherever I was great and they had respect for us.
Now take a look at our so-called people behave when they go abroad ask the Spanish ask the airlines, all they want to do is get blotto fight and have sex. If you treat people like dirt they will do the same.
Me I am proud to be British but sometimes ashamed

They feel threatened by intelligence!

Meh, seriously though (and yes, the above was a joke), we've fought wars against most of the countries in Europe and many, many elsewhere. After such a warlike history, I'm not surprised so many countries hold a grudge. That said, I'm still proud of our history, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying what we did was wrong. The world was a different place then and we cannot judge it by our standards.

Then theirs todays chavs and yobs, hell, is there any way to portray them in a good light? I just hope other countries realise we aren't all like that.

worriedaboutyou, is the world paying the price? That's funny, because I seem to remember something about the countries we colonised, albeit that they didn't want to be, being MUCH more prosperous under British rule, with advances in technology, medicine and quality of life. Look at the commonwealth (old British empire) the countries there would be much worse off had we not colonised, and some of them have degenerated since we left. I'm not saying colonisation was necessarily good and moral, but the world isn't a worse place for it. I'm not ashamed of our imperialism, and never will be.

I'm also a proud Brit but from what I hear, everyone loves us :-)

I find in some films, the bad guy is more likely to be a Brit but only because the British - both as actors and characters - are much better at playing the role than others :-)

I'm American and I've always thought Brits were cool. So many of my favorite books, music, and tv came from your country: David Bowie, The Beatles, Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, the Pythons, AbFab, Red Dwarf... too much quality entertainment to list.
In my years working in the travel industry, the Brits I talked to on the phone were not only pleasant, but also entertaining.
I'm not a nationalist so I won't comment on politics or foreign policy.

I was in Latvia recently (I'm English and British) and there were several Stag weekends and rugby tours in our hotel. Don't get me wrong I've always enjoyed a drink and a laugh but I completely saw it from the other side on this occasion, I was so embarrassed to be British (more English really) the levels of drunken shouting intimidation and bullying were unbelievable. I don't think any of it was intentional they just couldn't see the effect they were having on the locals who were quite frankly scared, therefore these people will think the Brits are all Arseholes, true in the case of these individuals

Because they are like an older sibling, the other kids are jealous that Brits are so well organized and have been for a long long time. Like Americans, they are perceived as 'know it alls' when in reality they are just people who enjoy freedom. some other countries are frustrated with their lot in life. Boils down to jealousy, I think.

i latterly study a piece of writing about how walmart became "undesirable" because they were replacing the face of retail. because they are so huge and purchase in such huge parts, they could genuinely administration what their vendors make and how they make it. at first i assumed this became terrible, yet then i realized, only because it truly is change does not mean it truly is undesirable. they are assembly a call for interior the marketplace. Their merchandise is oftentimes decrease-high quality (not all of it, for sure, yet a large number of the deeply-discounted stuff), which makes it low priced. As a customer I continually have some options: i am going to flow to Walmart and get the low-priced, actually disposable merchandise, that could want to or might want to not very last a week; or i am going to flow to a larger-end shop, pay more beneficial, and optimistically get a product which will very last and is properly worth my funds. For me there's a time for each decision. i do not recognize if I characterize the final perspectives of the yank inhabitants, yet it truly is my address it. Walmart is purely as evil as its shoppers!

Maybe because most Brits who go traveling aren't the finest example of the British people?
But then again, most other travelers aren't either, so.......I guess nobody wants to admit they have bad manners that all.

I think you are being sensitive. I can't speak for everyone (obviously) but I can assure you that I don't think poorly of Brits at all.
