there are a couple of things that I need to know first before I can give an appropriate answer,:

1) what is the OS you are using
2) What version of Media Player are you using
3) How much Memory does your computer have
4) How much free hard drive space do you have
5) What speed is you CPU

Once I have the answer to some of these I can give you a better answer, but for now I am going to try to give a generic answer and hope it fits.

If you are using Windows XP and have 128megs of memory or less then chances are that it's taking a real long time to swap out to the hard drive and if there isn't sufficient hard drive space or enough swap file(virtual memory) allocation then the medai player is probably just going to hang.

I hope this helps, it is the best I can come up with off the top of my head without any specific information as to what you have in your system.

Get a faster PC, add more memory, add a better video card. Probably try the latter first. If you get a really upmarket Video card it will take a huge load off the CPU when you're palying video.

Get Ad-Aware then scan your computer in safe mode (restart then press F8 until you see the menu then choose safe mode)
