Its having heating problems. I recently got the water pump replaced, and it over heated after that got done. Now it over heats quite a lot, not just when i'm going fast. I've been told it is probably the head gasket but i don't know!

Look at your oil first. Does it look milky/cloudy? That's a sure sign. Look at your coolant. Does it look greasy? That's another. Good luck with the car:)

oil in the water or vice visa, can be an indicator of a blown gasket, but it could mean a crack in the block as well.

with blown head gasket you will not always get oil in the water, it depends where it has blown.

a few ways to check for a head gasket, pressure test the cylinders, this is done with a gauge that screws into the hole where the plug goes, turn over the engine a few time and check the pressure, it should be about 150-160, any drop means a problem

the other way it to remove the head

before doing the second one tho, i would check that the thermostat working fully, and all the other cooling systems are working. check out some of my previous answers for information on how to do this

i hope this helps

water in the oil is recognised by white sludgy stuff in the oil filler or in the radiator cap (if there is one). If the gasket is blown on the outside, there will be oil sprayed over the engine too.

Did you replace the thermostat at the same time as the water pump? Thermostats are cheap. Did the garage flush out all the cooling fluid from the radiator and pipes? A head gasket replacement can be expensive on a modern car.

I suppose it might be the oil circulation, a blockage or the oil pump not working very well.

Engines can also overheat if they are running a weak mixture of fuel or if the spark timing is wrong.

You can look at what is coming from your exhaust pipe. If there is white smoke and moisture you may have a bad head gasket. On some vehicles bubbling into the radiator. Are you loosing anti freeze? Is you fan working properly?

Have you tried having the thermostat replaced? If you blew a head gasket you would notice water in your oil. Pull the dipstick and see if your oil has water in it. Also does your car leak antifreeze? I don't mean pouring out...I mean a steady loss of water? Your car would not overheat if you blew a head gasket.. you would lose power and see smoke.

Do a head gasket. It sounds like the issue. It also could be your thermostat or bad antifreeze.

one sure sign of a blown head gasket is white smoke from your tailpipe.this is steam and it will smell like antifreeze.

If it cuts out when you are idling or applying no gas, overheats but runs semi ok when cold its prob the head gasket.

Check your oil. If it is milky looking you have a blown headgasket for sure.
