start of what films you really want, at the moment tescos are doing some good films and have alot starting from £2.97
I have over 200 in my collection Hmv were doing great prices for box sets ,don't rush out buying price compare.
Also if cash convertor near you they have mint dvds at great prices used.
ebay can get you good prices and so can boot sales.
also do you want to go for collector editions or normal dvds
some examples of prices i paid are
Brand new fight club (replacing one) £2.99 hmv
Matrix special edition discs all 3 films and animatrix £15.00
Special edition I am Sparticus £3.99
Batman Begins 2 disc special £7.49

For me, I like collecting them from eBay. After getting rid of my original collection (at those early high prices!) of mostly movies that are now readily seen on cable TV, I currently buy up old and obscure titles and have a pretty esoteric collection of stuff you won't usually find on Amazon.

First, this is what you do,you go to the store of your choice, purchase the DVD(s),take them home, put them on your shelf and do this over and over until you have a amount that you like and that's how you have your collection. Easy huh?

Can't you retrieve some of them from home? That way you wouldn't have to re-buy your old DVDs and could spend your hard earned savings on new ones?

Your best bet might be sites that offer DVD price comparison like http://www.dvdbargainalerts.co.uk or http://www.kelkoo.co.uk Assuming you are in the UK of course. They'll help you find the cheapest places to buy your DVDs.

first of all you classify ur future library with Geners(Action, Conedy, Crime, Anime,...etc)
then you start searching in each genre for ur fav. films.
this site might help you.
www.imdb.com
it is a hige films library, there you can search with the film name.
or you can go to any DVD shop and ask them for the top 10 dvds of the year and years before.
Note: you might not like thier top10, it only depends on ur taste.

Go to HMV or Virgin or some such big store and just pick out the best ones. Simple. One suggestion: Six Feet Under box set. Five seasons of brilliant television.

Go to Amazon.com and start ordering, or make a trip to Costco, Best Buy or some other retail outlet.

nothing wrong in going to pick yourself up some secondhand ones from shops in town - just make sure the CD is in good condition before you buy...
