There are many good sites for finding jobs and going directly to an employer with a "Hiring" sign in the window is a great idea if you want to go into retail.
Hospitals, nursing homes, and other medical facilities also need plenty of "unskilled labor" (which is what you are right now). Most of the jobs you'll qualify for aren't fun, but you will get some valuable insight and experience in a major industry - healthcare. Long-term, that's a great industry for anyone, particularly as you make your way up the skills ladder into the really high-paying jobs.
As mentioned by others, "retail" (Walmart, Target, etc.) and places like McDonald's also need people of your age and education. Also good experience to have under your belt - even if it only motivates you to get better educated so you can get better-paying jobs.
It will probably be difficult to quickly find things other than retail or medical very quickly, but it's possible. So, also check out
* Craigslist for Chicago - http://chicago.craigslist.org/
Craigslist is a giant online classifieds (mostly free) so you'll find many jobs posted by small companies and individuals. You'll also find some junk (scams, etc.) so be careful. But it can be very useful. Here's an article for getting the most out of Craig's List - http://jobhunt.typepad.com/jobsearching/2006/07/using_craigs_li.html
* ChicagoJobs.org - http://www.chicagojobs.org/
Local resources and advice sponsored by the Skokie Public Library.
* Job-Hunt.org - http://www.job-hunt.org/jobs/illinois.shtml
Has over a hundred employers and career resources collected specifically for Illinois, with hospitals, medical centers and banks included.
* Indeed.com - http://www.indeed.com
Indeed is an "aggregator" site which collects job postings from job sites as well as employer Websites, so do a search on Chicago to see what you find.
* Local newspaper classifieds are also very useful, and some of them also post the help wanted classifieds on their Websites. You'll find a bunch on the Job-Hunt.org Illinois page.
Good luck!

properly, right that's the deal: you recognize that that's severe and could in uncomplicated words worsen in case you do not have a tendency to it. I do not ignore that you're in a economic bind because you do not have coverage. inspite of the undeniable fact that, your well being is a concern. SO, make some telephone calls to three dental workplaces on your section and discover out what type of price plans they offer- clarify your difficulty (which isn't unique, by technique of how). in case you desire a root canal because you've a significant an infection, then you definately're likely staring at $six hundred-$1200. i'd say your popular well being is properly worth that (and larger!), so merely get the treatment you desire and start up making funds for it; then both get some dental coverage or are not getting coverage and start up taking more effective efficient care of your oral hygiene (and placed a touch funds aside each month in case you desire yet another root canal). good luck.

And I just thought of another thing...what about your high school guidance counselor---sometimes THEY have the job hookups. 2 years ago, I was looking for some summer help--filing, running errands, etc and I called the HS across the street--sure enough, the guidance counselors recommended quite a few kids for us.
Try that, OK?

60 days ago I had a job at a respectable ad agency, a two-bedroom apartment, and a semi-comfortable way of life. 60 days later I’ve gotten engaged, quit my job, packed my bags, and moved to Chicago without a plan. Talk about big changes. It’s funny how much you really MOVE when you start trying – how much you surprise yourself when you dare to be different.

Try waitressing. You'll have to work hard, but since you get cash tips you'll earn more money than a typical minimum wage job with no experience.
