Let see if we can straighten out a miss understanding. Capital punishment is to put someone to death for a crime.
Corporal Punishment is to discipline someone by spanking him.
In some states in the USA, have never stopped Capital punishment. Some have stopped it. The reason is has been stopped is because some liberal thinkers believe criminals can be reformed to be put out on the streets to live a good life. Even if they have killed people in the process. The have to serve a sentence in prison but if it is not for life then they can get out and free to live a normal life. There has been killers that get life in prison with every chance for escape and also to live a long and reasonable live.
The thought here is to not kill them but to imprison them so they can suffer for their crime. This way they actually pay for their crime in a wasted life behind bars. But while they are in prison the good citizens of our country and state are paying for their, food, education, hospitalization and care. Sound like good Punishment?
To bring back the Capital Punishment is to not have to pay for all this care and I can guarantee the criminal will not commit another crime again. He or She will certainly be punished for their crimes with there life.
They have shown to soceity that they are not fit to live amoung law abiding citizens in a safe and reasonable manner. Therefore we have to help them understand their ways are not in soceities best interest. So bring back Capital Punishment and the ones commiting serious, murderous crimes will be dealt with accordenly.

I am opposed to capital punishment.
Pragmatically, studies have shown that:
It has no effect on the capital offense rate.
It is actually more expensive than life imprisonment sentences because of the costs going through the legal system, etc.
It is, in my eyes, less of a punishment than life without parole.
Morally, I find the taking of a human life reprehensible either through the hand of an individual or the State. The Old Testament notion of an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth is a primeval concept unfitting to a humane and civilized society. It is demeaning to us all to put individuals to death through a legal system that is imperfect and cannot legitimately work in Absolutes.
Seems like a lot of postings have confused corporal punishment with capital punishment and, therefore, have posted inappropriate responses.

The main reason is for revenge. Someone killed my ---, so I want to kill someone to balance the scales. It is touted as a deterrent. It does keep the person executed from ever doing anything again. But it does nothing to stop other people from killing. In addition, our legal system is grossly flawed, so it often results in the killing of another innocent person. See, Illinois and Governor Ryan.
Capital punishment is dramatically more expensive than prison sentences, usually by several million dollars per person sentenced to death, which is another reason for its discontinuation.
Capital punishment is part of the "eye for an eye" mentality which worked so well for Israel over the last month. However, there are people who revel in revenge and hurting other people.

Are you referring to capital punishment in schools? Such as the PADDLE! How about because when it was used there was alot less trouble in the schools, Juvenile crime rates were lower, kids were safer. Now at my daughters school they get in school suspension. Most kids think of that as a long study hall. Real detriment there!
If you are referring to capital punishment in the Criminal Justice system,it never went away
