I have had a similar problem. I rented a carpet cleaner and put disinfectant and deodorizer in it and then just kept going over and over it again and again. I did it about 7 or 8 times in 2 days. Each time I really pulled the water out of the carpet let it dry a couple hours and then did it again with really hot water. Everybody told me it wouldn't work but it did for me. I also varied the directions I pulled the cleaner. Lots of water in...lots of water out. Can't promise this for you but it did work for me. If that doesn't work you will have to pull up the carpet and pad and depending how bad the wood smells you may have to put a sealer over it. Good Luck.

There is no 'quick fix' to permanently solve this problem. The animal urine has soaked thru the carpet, into the pad, and possibly, the subfloor.

Your best approach to eliminating the problem, is to replace the carpet and pad, and while you have it up.. inspect that flooring for damage... you may need to replace some of it too.

You can try using a cleaner with disinfectant in it, but as one answerer said, he had to go over his carpets many times to get them clean... running that much water into the carpet and pad will help flush them out... but you have to be realllllllllly careful about getting all that water back OUT of the pad and carpet, or youre only going to give mold and mildew a place to live. Again.. its not a "quick" fix... thats an approach that will take you several applications, with careful removal of the water each time you clean. If the carpet is worn even a little, I would advise that you replace it (and the pad).

Other products will help remove the smell temporarily, like Febreeze, vinegar, lemon juice, etc....but it is only temporary, with a problem like this. If you knowingly withhold knowledge of the damage... you could be liable for the repairs even after you sell the home, with many states' mandatory disclosure laws. So, I advise against taking any shortcuts... get the problem solved permanently to avoid a legal battle later.

Good Luck

If you have carpet on the floors, try a vinegar and water mixture in a spray bottle. Raise the windows and let it air out. If this doesn't work try Febreeze. Sit small containers of vinegar around the house, this helps to eliminate odors.
Good Luck!

If you can get "odorban" that might help. The only place I know to get it is Sam's Club.
