my shop method-
Feel around inside the nostril to find the 'sweet spot'-the soft thin bit of skin where a septum should sit. clean inside both nostrils and the septum with technicare (surgical scrub) depending on which method (freehand) a recieving tube will be placed on one side of the septum and the needle pierced into this. (clamps) the clamps will be placed on the septum (this is more painful usually than the piercing itself) and the needle pierced through. the jewelry (usually a 14g ring, curved barbell or retainer) will be butted up against the end of the needle and in one motion slid into the piercing. its actually a rather difficult piercing for some people to get straight.

I vaguely remember how it went but I can give you a rough draft at least...ok, first they stare up your nose for about a minute to I guess find the 'septum' itself. Who knows. Anyways, then they use little antibacterial wet cloths to get all the dried snot and such out so it's clean and ready to pierce. The clamps...here they come. Seriously, they are not fun at all. Stick your fingers up your nose and pull hard on your septum area and see if you find it to be fun. Not at all. Now imagine a metal clamp gripping down tight onto it doing the same thing. Seriously, it's probably almost as painful as the piercing itself. Then comes the needle. I got mine pierced with a 16g which is actually, as I've been told, quite larger than what most people get theirs pierced with (it's usually an 18g I guess...at least that's what my body piercing friend told me). The actual piercing itself takes about 10 seconds, and yes...it hurts like hell. Your eyes will water, your nose will burn, run...feel like it's going to fall off. But ya know what? After that, as long as you don't get hit in the nose every two seconds...which seems to happen all of a sudden after you get a septum piercing...it's not so bad. Mine healed in about...eh...6 weeks. Was still a bit tender, like if I pushed up under my nose, but after about two months it was fine. I got mine with a captive hoop, because they said putting threaded jewelry in a septum is a no no and they don't pierce with retainers...but...I went home and changed it to a retainer that night and let it heal with that. Bad call...don't do that...I got lucky. Hope that helps you out, I'm sure everything will be different for you, maybe it won't hurt so bad. Good luck!
