When stars form inside of nebulae.The dust and gas in the nebulae gravitationally attract to each other bit by bit.after quite a long time this accretion of matter begins to spin.The spinning heats up the ball until it is so hot nuclear reactions ensue and the ball turns on.what makes one more or less dim is the amount or size of that initial ball of matter that turned on.Blue giants are the largest and they only last for 100,000 plus years.Our sun is an average star that lasts on the scale of 10,000,000 years.It is halfway through its lifetime.

They are stars that are smaller than others. Because they are small, the temperatures and pressures at thier core are not enough to make fusion occur rapidly. Depending on the particular star, such dim stars can last 10 times as long as the sun would;
