The 60's was nothing special. You have to remember that this is the decade in which Englebert Humperdink had more number ones than The beatles and the Who combined. Much of the better stuff of the groups mentioned by people who claim to love the 60's was written in the 70's. I'm not going to judge the best decade, there is a lot going for most of them, if you know what to look for.

The 60's of course. You had Motown. And then the British Invasion changed everything. Fav songs are hard to say because it was such a phenomenon. You had American protest songs about the Viet Nam war, you had silly bubble gum music. The decade of the 60's could be described in its music, ending in 1969 with Woodstock. The 70's showed promise, then slowed down a bit, and Disco totally destroyed the 70's.

1980's - they had The Cure, The Joy Division, The Smiths, The Stone Roses, Aerosmith, Guns 'n' Roses (at their best), Metallica (again, at their best), Madonna (at her best), The Birthday Party .....
.... I could go on and on! I'm so sorry that I was just a little kid when all this brilliant music was being made!
My favourite songs from the decade are probably "She's lost control" by the Joy Division, "Catch" by the Cure and "Heaven knows I'm miserable now" by the Smiths, although there are loads more brilliant one-hit-wonders as well, like "Don't fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult.
