Start with some small talk. Try to bring up something you may have in common. (as an example- did you hear *** new song? or wow, the prices sure have gone up on ***, )The rest of the conversation will flow, but it might be good to have a few topics pre-planned to avoid awkward moments.

Ask them how their day was... sometimes an event that had occured earlier in their day can sometimes start an entire conversation.
