I am planning to get a tattoo in November. It will be the kanji symbols for "Faith", "Hope" and "Love". I am looking for information on finding the proper symbols. I've been looking online for a while now and I've seen numerous different symbols, some with one character, some with 2. I would really appreciate it if anyone with knowledge on the subject of Kanji could help point my in the direction of some good resources...

The reason why you've found some variations of Kanji symbols for each word (Faith, Hope, Love) is because, for example, "Faith" has more than one definition. The word, "Faith" is defined as 1) belief or trust: belief in, devotion to, or trust in somebody or something, especially without logical proof, 2) religion or religious group: a system of religious belief, or the group of people who adhere to it, 3) trust in God: belief in and devotion to God, 4) set of beliefs: a strongly held set of beliefs or principles, people of different political faiths, 5) loyalty: allegiance or loyalty to somebody or something. Therefore, "Faith" can be translated into "shinrai," "kakushin," "shinnen," "shinkoushin," etc. It is safer for you to let a tattoo artist know your intention.
