I always recommend for 1st timers Cancun. I also recommend you stay in an all inclusive. There are tons to pick from. All the resorts in Mexico are relatively safe, but you must exercise your own personal safety. Meaning, don't get so drunk you pass out in an alleyway, or get into a car of someone you don't know, or stumble back to your hotel by yourself. Mexico is a third world country and even though 99% of the citizens are hard working, friendly, family oriented people, there are always going to be that 1% that see you as an opportunity. Be warned, once you go there once, you'll want to keep going back! Have a great vacation.

It is safe to go to Mexico if you go to the major/big resort town areas that have airports by the city. Its not too save to fly into a major airport and than drive an hour or two to a resort in a smaller area as some areas have banditos lurking in the country
sides. Been there so I know. Our cab driver was concerned about having to drive back in the dark because of them.
As to what resort is the best, it depends on where you want to go, where you are flying from, what you want to see and do, what time of the year you will be going and of course how much you want to spend as some destinations are more expensive than others. Be a little more specific.

It depends on where you want to go. I live in Mexico City, so if you're into beaches and warm weather, then I would recommend going to Playa del Carmen, Akumal [about an hour away from Cancun] or Puerto Vallarta. But Mexico City does have some very good museums and tourist areas, you just need to be careful.

Puerto Vallarta... my favorite beach in Mexico. I like to stay on the south side of town... it's cheaper and fewer Americans. The water is prettier near Cancun. Try Playa del Carmen.... it's 40 min. from Cancun, and very quaint. The water is crystal clear! The state of Oaxaca has some nice beaches, too. Oaxaca will definetely give you a glimpse at true mexican culture. it's a gorgeous state with a lot of Indigenous roots.

If you want to try something alternative and wilder, but safe enough to go out and meeting nice people, go to Mazunte near Puerto Escondido and Huatulco. In my opinion it is more interesting and it isn't as developed as Cancun and the Caribbean Coast. Mexico City is amazing, quite dangerous though, It is better if you've got friends who live there.

If you intend to learn to end almost any violence the you will need to have this program of Bruce Perry, Patriot Self Defense , a program that you simply will get it here https://tr.im/C0Q36
Patriot Self Defense can educate you on a highly efficient self-defense system that's been field-tested in properties, at government functions and on some of the meanest streets in the world against the most callous, clever and harmful criminal.
With Patriot Self Defense you will see out that is easier then you estimated to defend your self because that you don't need to be a professional or have strength, you only have to learn how to do specific techniques, simple techniques but deathly.

I've been to Cancun a few times and I love it. Lots to do...
I didn't like Puerto Vallarta as much, but lots of people in my family like it. The water was dirty and rocky, but I guess that depends on where you stay. My parents have been to Cozumel and Ixtapa. They said Cozumel was more for people who like to snorkel and scuba dive. Ixtapa is more for relaxation and relaxing by the beach. You can go to your library or to a book store and get a Mexico travel book for more ideas. Wherever you go, you'll be sure to have a great time.

Cancun is nice, I've been to Acapulco also, and it is awesome. The best thing about Acapulco is that there's hardly any tourists, (at least when I went), so you really feel like you're in mexico....rather than Cancun, where you might as well be in southern florida.
