As you know, buzz aldrin had a crazy reaction to the conspiracy theorists when asked if we really did go to the moon.

I just want people's intuitive thoughts on the matter - personally i feel there was a massive, intentional story built to make the US seem bigger and badder than it is.

kinda reminds me "oh yeah, that's why our country has such a huge deficit.

also reminds me "oh yeah... we're in the us and the u.s. is ranked lower by only one other country in the world in terms of general science knowledge." yet we went to the moon first... ? yet nobody in the world has gone to the moon in like...a REALLY long time.

I probably wont get picked (by you) by telling you this...but I take offense of your bashing of Science. First of all...The computer you are using, as well as the Internet itself were both inventions which came from the USA. I find it ironic that you now use them both to cut down science in the USA. Secondly, we not only went to the moon first, but many times after. The stupid rumor of a hoax still persists to this day. NASA has 845 lbs of moon rocks in their possession as I type this. (What is left after all the testing.) After the Apollo missions ended we were able to determine that the moon has ICE. - Yes, frozen water in the dark permanently shaded edges of creators up there. We WILL in fact go back again. It's already in the planning stage. Someday we can split the H20 into Hydrogen and Oxygen to use as fuel. The Moon will be a filling station and stepping stone for future missions to Mars and beyond. I hope I taught you (and others who read this) something valuable. Vote for my answer is you like the truth and love astronomy like I do.

oh please. there was no moon hoax. those studies are of now, not during the cold war when the government was handing out money for science like it was going out of style. we spent so much money in order to gain ground in the pr war against the soviets. and those studies are of the general population, not of the top scientists. and why would anyone go to the moon now? even at the end of the apollo series we were admitting that it was incredibly expensive, and we weren't learning that much. now that there is no point, why bother?

and as to aldrin's reaction, how would you feel if the crowning achievement of your life, the goal for which people died and billions of dollars spent, one of the most important moments of human history, was spat on and belittled?

We haven't gone to the moon since the 70's because we haven't had any reason to. We were primarily concerned with beating the Soviets to it. After we did that, the space program lost a lot of its focus and drive, and underwent major overhauls. Yes we did go to the moon first, but the Soviets did pretty much everything else first. First man in space, first woman in space, first artificial earth sattelite, first animals in space recovered alive, first man to orbit the earth, first space walk, first sattelite to reach another body in space (the moon), first time two men were in space at the same time, first space station, and first soft landing on Mars. The US tends to think of itsself only in terms of being the first on the moon, and most people would probably say that Alan Shepard or John Glenn was the first man in space. I think its interesting that short of having the first un-teathered space walk, and the first weather and communications sattellites, and of course the first men on the moon, the Soviet Union really beat us in the space race.

As the daughter of an Electrical Engineer for Grumman's Aerospace during our Space Missions, and having toured the Lunar Module ( aka the LEM that landed on the moon) my father was the Chief Inspector for- having met some of the astronauts, etc, I totally KNOW we went to the moon.

Are you one of those who also fell for the " theory" that our government blew up part of it's Pentagon and the Twin Towers?

There really is a moon. It's not made of green cheese. 12 Americans really did walk on it.

Alan Shepard really hit a golf ball on the moon. It went 'miles and miles and miles'.
