Yes you can use the firefox browser (from mozilla) on xp, and it is even compatible with internet explorer (there is even an extension enabling users to switch modes)
as for uninstalling interenet explorer, its a) not so easy to do, and b) not recommended by Mozilla nor Microsoft... since internet explorer is a core component of the XP operating system, it is likely many programs will be affected...
I would suggest simply installing Firefox allowing it to become the default browser, and then ignoring Internet Explorer as much as you are able to after that...

Yes, mozilla firefox explorer is 100% compatible with win xp and you don't need to uninstall internet explorer.
Although there are some compatibility issues with IE and Firefox with regards to the HTML & Javascript. Some scripts work with only IE, some with only Firefox and some with both.
But this has a concern with web designers & developers. It does not bother simple internet users because they are not making any web site. They are just looking at web sites designed by the professionals.
Regards.

The Firefox browser from Mozilla has gained increasing ground during the past year. And undoubtebly is the best alternative (no - i say, replacement!) to IE because of the many valuable (and working) extensions, plug-ins you can use to greatly heighten up your websurfing experience. It has even nice themes to to suit your personality or the dressing of your desktop!
Contrary to what the other posts, I recommend un-installing IE. Why? Although Microsoft has issued many patches to their built-in browser, even their new IE7 can't deny the fact that it is the most convenient way for hijackers, exploiters, and virus-carriers to get into your Windows box. Furthermore, IE7 can't compete with the current usability and functionality of Firefox!
So go ahead, uninstall that IE. It's in the ControlPanel\AddRemPrograms\AddRemWinComponents.
Don't believe the hype that you can't get into IE-only sites. Nowadays the only such sites I found are those in Microsoft.com domain. :-)

Yes I am using it now. You can still have more than one browser and you can also use IE at the same time as Mozilla Firefox if you want. But they interact together well. Don't uninstall IE as there is no need to.

Yes, it's compatible with Win XP and you don't have to uninstall IE. In fact - it's not recommended to uninstall IE!
They work alongside each other very well and Firefox has some really nice features, so go ahead.
