I live in Korea and bought my computer out here, so the keyboard also has Korean characters on it. However, I can't seem to type in Korean - it just shows abstract symbols instead :??*> for example!

Are there any programmes I can download to make the two compatable? Thanks!

Yes Mocrosoft has support for oriental languages. You have to go to their site and type support for korean or japanese or chinese characters in the search box and then you will be taken to the page where you can download this software (its free). Install it and enjoy :)

Go to regional Option in control panel. In the Text or Input Tab Select Koren Language. Than a langauge option is added in Start bar just near the clock. You can change laguage of your input whenever you need to type.

I also have a similar subject before as i'm utilising the conventional computer with English alphabet characters. while you're utilising residing house windows XP or Vista you purely would desire to install the East Asian Font p.c.. that's purely enabled in the language settings as pronounced with the aid of 1krn. you may would desire to have you ever residing house windows Installer CD waiting because it relatively is going to ask for specific record on the installation disc to place in the fonts and enable international IME (international enter technique -- allows you to form in chinese language, eastern Korean the two Hangul and Hanja) as quickly as the East Asian Font p.c.. is put in you are able to enable it on your language placing below 'information' the place you are able to and decide KOREAN as between the languages that your computer can form. Command bar would be attainable allowing you to apply Korean font with the aid of purely pressing ALT. it relatively is going to likely be slightly slow on the begginging as you do not have the Korean character markings on your keyboard (except you have samsung desktops or keyboard) yet you ought to use IME Pad the place you are able to draw the character for the computer to renowned what you're writing.

it sounds like your programs are not unicode compliant. You can either force them to use unicode fonts (ie figure out what font file they are using and rename another font to that same name.... dunno if this works, it's just a guess) or sometimes it works if you set your computer to the korean locale (if you're using Windows this is through the "Control Panel > Regional and Language Options", however if you do so all your menus will be in korean too.
