Dear Pari T
I will treat with respect, rest of the society? continue reading...
You have asked a question that highlights the confusion people have in their mind about the virtues.
Here are my views; you will understand them better if you are an Indian. (“You here means the “a girl referred to in your question”)
Your concept of virtues is incomplete, I would say. If something you consider as virtue is harming you, how can it be a virtue? Virtues are context based, time based and situation based. Non-Violence is a virtue? Is it a virtue for a soldier in war?
Please think about the following points and make your concept clear.
For a virtue to be a real virtue it must always be supported by a power (strength) to have/hold it. For example, to forgive is a virtue but when? When you have the strength/ability to punish the wrongdoer. When a wrestler like man beats a weak person, the weak person cannot under any circumstances forgive the wrestler like man. He must put up brave resentment/fight against the other man, that braveness here would be a virtue. If he says that he has forgiven the wrestler then people will laugh of him.
Virtues cannot be stand-alone; you must have other virtues to complement them. You must give thought to this aspect also. A solid character, self-confidence, judgment, sprit to put up a brave fight when situation demands, self-respect, etc are necessary.
It is good to be humble before your parents, teachers but not before everyone. It is good to be honest for the honest and not for dishonest. If you do not have ability to judge and discriminate then it is your weakness. You cannot ignore your weaknesses and put forth only virtues part of your character.
Are we hiding our weaknesses behind our so-called virtues? Then it is disguising one self. Strike a balance, demand self respect (isn’t it a virtue?, why not to have it too?), society will give respect and whatever you deserve.
Regards,

vir·tue- n.
1. Moral excellence and righteousness; goodness.
2. An example or kind of moral excellence: the virtue of patience.
(from the American Heritage Dictionary).
Qualities are considered to be virtues not because they are materially beneficial to their possessors, but because they are morally admirable traits. Of course, this depends on your particular moral conception. An objectivist would completely disagree with someone of more a conventional moral perspective over which traits are 'virtuous.'
Sidenote- I disagree that a goodlooking girl would in general be treated badly by most men in the world.

If you were refering those descriptions to yourself , then i want to tell you what a wonderful person you are. You are a real gem indeed, but unfortunately we all have to live with the notion that competition allows stepping on others to get your way...and some do behave as such and i presume you know this. The trick is in keeping your head high, knowing you are safeguarding your virtuous quality and doing no harm on others. Cynical obversations by some lead them to a disbeleif in your authenticity but that's their g-damn problem i think. They will have to come to realise that some of us are just not morons, good looks just doesn't turn us into bict*es.
Before i ramble on and forget what the question is all about, ....
Yes,these are still and eternally will be conferred the honour of virtues. You cannot alter the forms of higher ideals by putting it up for public tests, it is unchanging and spiritual in nature.
The best you can do in life is cultivate and keep this virtues and just not give a damn to let society judge it. They may judge wrong........Don't worry, i think you are wonderful!

Emotional cannot be honest always. Being faithful to your own self is the first lesson of honesty. Emotional one will fail many times. Humility is greatly misunderstood. Being humble in front of deceiving ones is not humility. It is foolishness.
All these virtues have a misguiding imitation that actively working in each individual in different forms. The true ones cannot be easily hijacked from the purpose of life.

I can't see good looking and humble being together in a girl at the same time. I'm not even sure about good looking and honest.

you think you have a lot of good qualities
so why should a person with such good qualities suffer so much?
two things
1. to be excellent. to be superior in any way will cause jealousy in others. people who seem to have 'everything going for them' are resented by many.
2. having good qualities doesn't make you exempt from suffering. everybody suffers. the key is not to think that our suffering is unique. to suffer is to be human. if people are jealous of you they are thinking "well, screw her. she's just little miss perfect. she doesn't know how bad i have it"
don't fall victim to the same mentality and think "poor me. why do they all have it so much easier than i do?"

They will probably not have it easy, but when they find the right people to be around they'll be extremely happy.
They call them virtues because the are really hard to obtain, due to the tremendous amount of mess you have to suffer though to keep them.

those qualities which are impractical but sound good are usually referred as virtues.
its true that a person with those 'virtues' might suffer but i cannot believe anyone to be like that because that will mean she has not been affected by the 21st century and thus remained pure.
though if u know someone like that i would love to meet her .

The purpose of virtue isn't to avoid pain.
Virtues are what allows you to cope with pain and grow from the experience.
