In mathematics, the meaning of fraction is an expression that indicates the quotient of two quantities.
However, more originally in languages, the meaning of fraction is a portion of something larger.
Thus, when a maths fraction has a value larger than 1, which mean that it is a 'portion' of something that is smaller than this 'portion'. So, we call such maths fractions a new name: improper fraction.
