Something to try:
Try turning the A/C off before you start the car, that will usually give the belts a chance to get a grip before trying to turn the a/c compressor.

Although only a minor irritation now, if the issue is not adressed your belt will fail prematurely. Depending on which belt it is, it could leave you stranded. Check the belt for cracks or glazing. If the belt looks good, then increase the tension slightly. Any $20 repair manual will show you how to do this.

The fan belt is probably wet and that makes it slip and screech until it 'grabs' the rotor and begins spinning correctly. It happens to everyone; there's nothing wrong with your car.

The rubber in the belts is getting hard or glazed,replace them.

does it have a serpentine belt? if so put a new one on , check the tension pulley to see if it is loose, also the idler pulley if it has one

It sounds like it could be a belt and it could be to your altenator and it is generally cheap to fix it.
