Easy answer- egg; dinosaurs laid eggs long before the existence of chickens.

But seriously, presumably the question implied "chicken egg." Even then, the egg would have to come first - the process of genetic variability the results in the evolution of new organisms doesn't occur in the middle of the life of the organism. The first chicken egg would have been laid by some non-chicken whose DNA mutated in such a way as to produce the first chicken genome that grew inside of the first chicken egg before the first chicken hatched.

A caveat to this- if you believe that abortion is murder, then by definition the chicken would have to come first, since it's a chicken even before it's hatched from the egg.

this is a very old adage, of course, the chicken. Without the chicken, the egg won't exist as the chicken lays it. The egg now can besynthesized for example like the egg beater.;however, a chicken can not be invented.

Which came first, the adult or the child??? The ADULT came first, because the child comes FROM the parents. The CHICKEN came first, because the egg comes FROM the parents. So the CHICKEN was here first, and had the egg. The man/woman were here first, and had the child.

Depends if you are a creationist or an evolutionist. With evolution, an egg which gives birth to a more improved version of its parents, melding through their good genes a single entity which can there for mate with another improved selection of its species starting a trend for thousands of years. A creationist believes the chicken came first, made by an entity that made everything in the world. Depends on your point of view, just like everything else.

With the new theory being espoused that Dinosaurs evolved into birds, by neccesity the egg with the new mutation (making it a chicken) would have to come first.
