3 to the a power

this question is on indices. indices only has some basic rules:

for questions with the same powers:
a^m x b^m = (a x b)^m
a^m ÷ b^m = (a ÷ b)^m

for questions with the same bases:
a^m x a^n = a^(m + n)
a^m ÷ a^n = a^(m – n)

other rules:
(a^m)^n = a^(m x n)
a^-m = 1 / a^m
(anything)^0 = 1

so for the question that you gave above (6ª÷2ª), they have different bases but are both to the power of a. so from the rule a^m ÷ b^m = (a ÷ b)^m, the answer would be:

6ª÷2ª = (6÷2)ª = 3ª

if it were 6ªx2ª instead then the answer would be:
(6x2)ª = 12ª

i hope that the rules above will help you along with indices. just try to understand and memorise the rules and practise. nothing beats practise when it comes to math. : )
