If you feel an officer or detective has broken the law, should you find an attorney in a different county that the officer or detetive works in?

You should hire a lawyer who is most experienced in the matter at hand. If that lawyer works or lives in the same city, county, etc., then it still is to your benefit to hire them.

Because this is something that affects the local law enforcement apparatus, you need local counsel, someone experienced in dealing with the particular judge in the case.

i don't think it really matters. it's highly unlikely that the attorney would even know the cop. Plaintiff attorneys don't care about that stuff. they just want your money :)
