In my opinion, you're always better off getting something slightly more expensive that is going to last you ages than to get something cheaper and replace it many times.......... buying cheaper usually ends up costing you more in the long-run if you keep having to replace it with something newer (or if the cheap one keeps breaking down on you) than if you buy something more expensive that it going to last you that same period of time.
A non-computer related example I've come up with is this:
imagine you've got 2 pairs of Trainers/Sneakers (or whatever you prefer to call them). One of them is a $60 pair of NIKE's.... the other a $10-$15 pair from a lesser known brand.
Cheap shoes like that, in my experience usually almost completely fall apart after 3-6months.... while the NIKE's last about two-and-a-half years before they're done for.
IF you're having to replace them $15 trainers/sneakers with another say every 6months, then after 2.5yrs that'll cost you 5x$15 = $75
Now.... try imagine doing something similar with something more expensive, like a laptop for instance.

Best buy has some very nice gateway laptops for about $1000. They are available in the store only. Any laptop over $1500 is a ripoff. I recommend checking out laptops between $800 and $1300. You won't need to replace it for a while. Laptops last a while and they stand up better to technology than desktops do. Laptop technology doesn't renew as quickly as desktop.

look the old 1 cost $1000 while the new 1 cost 2000 is't it better to buy new 1.
i have 3 reasons:
1st. it's new
2nd.it has alredy been installed with newr technology
3rd. by installing new technology to the old 1 is more expensive in the run and may often break down.
So there.

An expensive laptop is not garantee to last longer, I suggest getting the cheapest new laptop. Get one around $500. $2000 is way too expensive and for a student, you won't need any laptop that is so powerful.

It depends on your own needs. Another factor you might want to consider: resale value. It's not a consideration for PC laptops but you can get great resale from a Mac laptop.
