i've never used a tanning bed but i'm pretty pasty most of the year and would like to start. i am not really sure of tanning bed etiquette though? can you tan topless so you have no tan lines, and is it safe to do this? how long are the sessions and how often do you have to do them?

i've tried sunless tanners, they never look natural on me, and with a six month old, i never feel like standing in the bathroom waiting for myself to "dry" lol

I tan topless. I go in with only my panties on. A lot of people go nude but because of that, I refuse. I've heard herpes horror stories caused by tanning places. And yes, I know. That's ridiculous. But still. Anyway, depending on the type of bed you use, sessions could last 10 to 20 minutes. You start (since you are pastey) going 5 or 10 minutes, then build up so you don't burn, get beat red, and then end up peeling. Because then you have to start over. BEWARE OF CONTRACTS. Do a month to month thing in case you don't like it. EFT is the only way to go too, BTW. Good luck tanning. I think you'll love it!

Yes u can tan totally nude. The sessions are what ever length u want them to be (light skinned people usually start with 3 minutes). But i do not recommend the tanning bed as it is not good for ur skin and it makes you look old before ur time.
Have u tried the new lotions out that make u have a tan and a glow to ur skin? I love them!

Yes you can tan topless. If your pasty like me...I take it easy ask the girl that puts you in the bed. They will tell you how long a full tan is...and go from there. I go seven and work my way up...to about 13. Try a hex bed and make sure you use lotion

I have been using them for years and years. You can wear as much clothing or nothing at all. As for the safety, I think they are safe, but everything carries a risk when talking about UV type exposure. You will start at a few minutes, like 8, and work up to the full time. Some beds are 20 minutes and others are shorter. Try it, you will love it. I would advise you buy a good lotion with a bronzer. It's going to cost, but worth it.

If you want to get skin cancer, tanning beds are for you.
Your child will then get a new mother.
Are you ready?

Tanning Salons And Sun Lamps

One of the main causes of skin cancer is exposure to harmful sun rays. If you think that getting tanned at tanning salons is safer than the sun, think again before visiting any salon. Tanning beds and sunlamps are as dangerous as the sun rays.

Most of the bulbs used in the salons emit both UVA and UVB radiations that are also found in the sunlight and are responsible for both melanoma and non-melonoma types of cancers. Exposure to tanning bulbs also reduces our body's ability to repair the damaged DNA, which is caused by UV radiation.

Tanning may not only cause cancers but also prematurely age the skin. Note that tanning is body's response to damage to the skin. Every time, you get tanned, you accumulate skin damage. There is no such thing as safe tanning.

Tanning is bad whether from sun, or from tanning beds or sun lamps.

Vaniety or wellness...
It's never been much of an option for myself. Wellness always wins. I've oftened wondered what goes through peoples minds when they expose themselves to addition UV radiation for purposes of a tan. Especially when their are safe 'tan in a can' options.

UV radiation has alot in common with smoking cigarettes, over a long period of time they will both age your skin, and exponentially increase your chances of getting cancers.

I did a paper in third year molecular biology about UV radiation. The results of our experiments were that DNA, when exposed to light that had the same wavelength of UVB rays causes DNA to split. DNA mutations were detected upon the two strands attempting to reattach. It is this type of recombinant error that leads to cell death and possibly cancer formation.

Stick to the out of the can spray on tan..

Don't do it. My friend used to hit the tanning beds and she ended up picking up a weird viral thing and got warts all over her back. Gross. Go for a sunless tanner. L'Oreal makes a nice one.

yes the point in a tanning bed is so you don't have tanning lines...so yes your in a room by yourself so you don't have to worry you can take off your top...because it's your first time I would not do more than 10 mins it will burn you...it only works if you go once a week for awhile and than slowly you can work up to 15 min than 20...

Actually, you look fine the way you are.
Get sort of a tan when it's a special occasion, that way you do less harm to your skin than doing it regularly.
Huh? I didn't know you could get warts from tanning beds . . .
Yes I do agree on the wrinkles, you usually can't reverse the effects of skin damage,(unless of course you try plastic surgery).

Most people tan nude. ...as for the length of time and frequency, that depends on the tanning bed. The salon will determine the amount of time and can recommend frequency.
