In sports betting the bookmakers decide what the chances are for sombody to win or something to happen. If I want to place my money on the hot favourite then they will say. The odds are 2/1 (two to one) meaning for every pound/dollar/euro I am willing to bet I will get 2 in return if my favourite wins. If, however-no offense meant here- I bet on Scunthorpe Utd.winning the FA cup, I may get odds of 500 to one. If I bet 1 pound and they win, I get 500 pounds. If I bet on Kiribati winning the World Cup-again, no offense meant, I'd maybe get, 5000/1, meaning for every pound I place, I'd get 5000 in that unlikely event.
In your example for every 2 pounds/dollars/euros placed the betting person would get 13 in return. If he places 2, he will get 26. If he places 100, he'll get 1300.
Does that explain it?
