Lots of outfits. I like dress clothes and casual clothes and I don't have a ton of money to buy lots of really expensive stuff. I want to look trendy and put together though. Please help.

Get plenty of separates that you can mix & match, dress up or down. Don't buy a ton of dresses, stick with skirts instead. 5 bottoms and 10 tops make 50 different outfits. Stick with basic colors for the skirts and pants, then get the tops in styles and colors that you want.

Try stores like TJ Maxx, Ross, Target, Marshall's, even K-Mart and Wal-Mart. Check out clearence racks at your favorite stores. Look at flea markets, consignment stores, yard sales, the classifides, and auctions, on line or local. Sometimes you can find new clothing at great prices. Somebody buys something, then never wears it, or only wears it once. Then they sell it for really cheap, sometimes less than $5.

For pants and skirts, black, gray, brown, khaki, navy. Darker colors in styles you like. Avoid specific shades that you can't pair up with other colors. The purple skirt may look great, but you are severly limited with what you could pair it with. Skirts should be no shorter than mid-thigh if you are talking about work clothing.
5 short sleeve and 5 long sleeve shirts in styles, colors, and patterns that match the bottoms.
I'd but the bottoms first so you don't get carried away with the tops. That way you know: can you wear the top with at least 2 of the skirts/pants? If not, put it back no matter how great it is.

Once you get some more paychecks, then invest in sweaters, jackets, blazers, cardigans, or whatever you like. The cold weather clothing can wait a few more weeks.

That depends on where you live. If you are in the warm climate, you can get some nice shirt on sale at aeropstale, AF, or forever 21. We still carry the fashion trend of bellybottoms, so you don't have to worry about buying a new style. As another suggestion, get some sewing magazines if you like to make cool clothes to save $$.

Get classic clothes that don't go out of style, and accessorize. The accessories can change with time and you can wear the same clothes as a base. You keep up with fashion trends this way, and save money too.
