or do you think it is better to just stick with the anonyminity that the internet provides us?
i am asking this because of the recent(in the past years) rise in crime rates in our nation, particularly child molestation, rape, murder, etc.
i mean, do you ever wonder if a person you are talking to on the internet could have had a shady past? it didn't really bother me much(i.e. i never realized it), until i discovered there was a horrible murderer that lived near the highway by my house...it really scares me to think someone like that could be so close to me and my family. wouldn't it be scary if we were talking to people like that on the internet--or do they even waste their time on here?
by the way: yes, i am aware of the irony in me asking this question to complete strangers...you don't have to point that out. i am just looking for some good answers to my question.

Yes, I have wondered somehow who I am really talking to. The thing is, we can never know unless the person tells you about himself. But where is the fun in that. The best thing about meeting new people is not being able to expect something out of that person. It is like expecting the unexpected. It does have that downside of the person having a shady past but who cares. The truth is, we must just think of him as a person today and hope his past just does not take over him again.

Different strokes for different folks. Yes, chatting with folks over the net is a risky situation. But MOST people aren't rapists, pediphiles or murderers. MOST people don't want to go to jail. You could just as easily risk befriending someone with a shady past that you meet at work, at church, at the grocery store. Not JUST the internet. Yes, there are some nutbaskets in this world and you just have to trust in God that he will protect you or guide you when you run across someone with those types of qualities.

No. -Because the reality IS, most of us don't really know a whole heck of alot about the people around us ANYWAY, -so the Internet is really no different. I mean think about it; are you REALLY going to feel more secure if you knew about all the skeletons in the closets of the lives of the people around you? A little knowledge IS a dangerous thing, but too much can be paralyzing if you can't handle it. We're all human & we all have issues. The minute we begin doubting the people around us- is the minute we've lost faith that God knows what He's doing. So stop worrying about what might happen if...- Concentrate on what DOES happen, & how you're going to handle it. Because you ARE going to have to deal with THAT.

I'll answer your question, but first I have a couple of body parts to run through my meat grinder yet.

I think you are analyzing this way too much. When I'm on the Internet, I'm more myself than in "reality." Here I get to be me, instead of the short, fat, shy guy who works at a coffee shop, asking if people need room in their coffee for cream all day. Outside, I have to wear a mask. In here I can be myself, which is why I'm on here quite a bit, because here I'm more relaxed, more real here I guessed you'd say.

sometimes I do wonder.........I've communicated with nice people, smart and not so smart people, old and young, gays and lesbos, white and black, rude and polite, etc. Then there are the people who are probably pedafiles, rapists, murderers, etc. In addition you get people that will say something bad or rude about someone because they are anonymous but if they were face to face with you their lips would probably be zipped. I dunno, but you're right......there are some people with bad pasts and then there are some really good people......but in the end, I think we all need to get out more! hehe
