there is no reason just like the points on Whose Line Is It Anyway? . . . . jk there really is a reason. The more points you get the more privileges you get, like asking more questions, answering question, emailing . . . . etc.

My dear... I'm sure if you've done a little homework you'll not ask this question and lose 5 points.

This got to be the most frequently asked question. I just had to type "earn points" on the "search for question" bar you see at the top of this page and I get pages of resolved answers. Some of them already resolved with best answers:-

http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/;_ylt=Aim0EiETejsAafeSXDcLCalJBgx.?qid=20060811125906AAbbhbO
http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/;_ylt=ApB9F4X_2cPQvWKWh1mAgrtJBgx.?qid=20060717110231AAXVKcB
http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/;_ylt=AiS1CMea6ChY.kqGaO5zp3RJBgx.?qid=20060726041800AAWElYf

Actually as you type your question, you can see a list of already solved questions right under the box you're typing and you can just select whichever sounds relevant.

Well TQ for 2 points anyway... I'll get 10 points if you choose me as best answer (you do that by clicking the blue "best answer" button at the right of my answer) or when other people vote my answer as best answer.

Nothing.. Yahoo is playing a game with its users. They start a situation like having a competition so more users use yahoo, get more points and they keep using Yahoo. thats it and thats the fact.

Being on level 1, you are only allowed to answer so many questions in one day. As you gain points and get to higher levels, you are able to answer more questions in a day.
