You gotta pay for the muffler. New Cadillac mufflers are costly.
You bought it "as is" and the old muffler was rotten and hanging on its flanges by sheer rust.

Any sale that makes it clear you are purchasing the item "as is" should cause you to do a very intensive inspection to find out why. Selling something this way typically reduces the value of the sale so whatever the problem is, it is bad enough that most buyers wouldn't buy it for average cost let alone top dollar.
It doesn't matter that it's a Caddy... in fact any General Motors product with 180,000 miles on it is well past it's prime. Hopefully, the purchase price was low enough for you to go to a muffler shop and have the whole exhaust checked out and repaired.

What to you expect out of a car with that many miles on it. There is actually a chance the old owner didn't know the muffler was going bad. Trust me muffler is a little problem.

As is means as is. You have a caddy with no muffler. Go get it fixed. BTW, a caddy is not a Pontiac.

Once you sign that paperwork you're beat. If you bought it from a car dealer you need to have it looked it. If someone says they put a quick fix on it, or the dealer fixed it, but did so improperly then you might be able to get them to fix it. Its like if you take your car to the shop and they mess it up you take it back and they correct the problem. So If they fixed it improperly you can ask them to fix it agian. They don't have too though.

thats common, mufflers rust out quite often and dont cost much to replace

Bougtht it "as is" so you have to pay for the repairs. You agreed to it.
