Get a new exhaust system, it should only cost you about 400 - 800 dollars but its more then worth it.
With a new exhaust system you will get increased horsepower and possibly increased mpg.
I would get some 3" pipes mandrel bent (consult an exhaust expert on the pipes, to big of pipes sometimes can decrease performance). I would get it all one piece up to the headers with no weld joints except at maybe the muffler its self. Oh and get new headers along with this setup. Also, I would not use a cheap midas muffler or something like that i would get a good flowmaster or magnaflow muffler.
It is illegal in most places to drive around with no exhaust system, so do this right and get a good exhaust system dont be a cheap *** and drive around in a vehicle with no exhaust system or muffler.

As is means as is, unless the seller knew the muffler was about to fall off and lied to you about it. In that case you might have a claim for fraud. For a car with 180,000 miles on it, maybe you should count yourself lucky that it was only the muffler.
