In the states the legal age for tatoos is 18. I know from experience though that you can get one from any place that will risk their business over it. The chance of getting caught aren't so good so some tend to risk it.

Outside of the country, all bets are off and I think you can go just about anywhere.

Just remember... tatoos are for life and most look ridiculous on an old person. Today we are seeing more body art than ever and while some look darn right interesting, those cost considerably more than the average person is willing to pay. So, they settle for cheap and cheap just plain looks cheap... for the rest of your life.

Oh sure, you can have them removed with lasers as some places advertise but it really isn't erased... it's just covered with scars... very attractive.

Temporary tattoos are the only way to go and good ones look very real.

If you have to ask, you're too young.

In most states it's 18. If you are younger than 18, you would have to list your state for us to know parental consent laws. In some states, they don't have them. In others, you can get one if your parent signs a consent form. In VA, it's 15.

If you don't know, then don't get one just yet. They are there for life once you get them. The only way to get rid of them is to cover it up with something (usually bigger and darker) or laser. And laser is very painful, very expensive, and takes a ton of appointments before it's gone.

Wait until you are college or older before getting one. That way you'll know for sure what area you are going to work in to better judge where and what to get. Some professions still don't allow visible tattoos or body piercings. Make sure you have a design picked out, or at least a very good idea, before you have it done. You may not like it forever.
You also may want to think about 20, 30, 40+ years down the road. A rose on the breast could look likes a red sunflower at 40. A dolphin around the navel will look like a distorted whale after kids. A pot leaf on your arm won't look too good when you try to tell your kids "Don't do drugs" or try to find a job. Who wants to hire a druggie except for another?

While they can be cute, sexy, and fashionable, they aren't for everybody and everywhere.

It might vary in different states, but in California you have to be 18, or get permission from your parents. I really want tatoos too.

I believe it's 18 everywhere, because you have to be old enough to legally sign the release forms on your own. Any place that lets you get a tattoo at younger than 18 is probably not operating under Health Dept. rules, so be careful!

Any reputable tattoo artist will only tattoo 18 + or you must have a parents consent.
I have tattoo's and trust me it is worth it to wait. Use the time to think of an original design that has meaning to you and to research the best artist that you can find. Also save your money. Good work doesn't come cheap.

You have to be 18 to get a tattoo. But then again, I kinda got mine on the sly... I was only 17, and the guy didn't check i.d., so I got lucky. Well, it's either that or your parents have to come with you and sign some crap forms... but yeah - as far as parents, it's like as if they'd ever sign ****! So goodluck with that!
