chengyman2009 is the one with the right answer!!!

x/x+1 - 4/5

make the denominator common:

x(5)/x+1(5) - 4(x+1)/5(x+1)
5x/5x+5 - 4x+4/5x+5

now that the denominator is common (ie. 5x+5), you can start to combine the 2 fractions to form 1 fraction and simplify.

5x-4x+4/5x+5 = x+4/5x+5
this is the final answer.

always remember to make a common denominator when adding or subtracting fractions.
for multplying and dividing by fractions, common denominators are not necessary.

hope this helps!!

yes, when you get the common denominator it will come out like this:
5x/5x+5 -(4x+4)/5x+5
or
5x-(4x+4)/5x+5 =

x-4/5x+5

(x / x+1) - (4/5) <---(Cross multiply)

_____________________
4x + 4 - 5x = 0 <--- add the 5x to the 4x
_____________________
9x + 4 = 0 <------ subtract the 4 to the other side
_____________________
9x = -4 <----- 9 on both sides
_____________________
x = -4/9

I think that's how you would do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
