I am not sure if here somebody knows an area called Taiwan, a country that is always bullied by China in Asia. If somebody knows anything regarding Taiwan. Please tell me your views about Taiwan. According to my relatives and friends in Taiwan, they told me that the two main parties (KMT and DPP) are struggling because of politics, and they do not consult the residents living in the CAPITAL--Taipei. Because the opposition party bothers 6 schools by noisy parade, the students there can't concentrate on their study. Whilst people criticize them, they don't show their rue. I 'd like to ask you if Taiwan is really a democratic country. Because the oppisition party wants to recall the president who was elected by people with some unreasonable and ridiculous reason.

I think you'll find most people don't know very much about the situation, but those who do and who share the same values of freedom and pluralism that the Taiwanese do will sympathise with your situation. The PRC is a nasty piece of work and I don't blame you for not wanting to be a part of it. China is already too big to be governable - look at all the government corruption - so why do they need Taiwan under their thumb? And I don't give the PRC much credit for its fast-growing economy; it took the Reds decades to learn what Taiwan always knew, that the free market works. Taiwan could be doing as well if most countries hadn't been bullied by the PRC into limiting trade with Taiwan.
Unfortunately western governments and business are so desperate to make money in the PRC that few will stand up to them. Even the left-wing mayor of London made light of the Tienanmen massacre while in China. France wants to lift the EU arms embargo and sell weapons to China. For once I salute Bush's foreign policy, as he pressured Britain to prevent the sales of arms which could be used against Americans if the PRC ever attack Taiwan. I hope at least America stands by this country which has done nothing wrong but is being marginalised in favour of a brutal dictatorship.

China wants to be a superpower. China doesn't want an uncontrolled, potentially hostile nation on her doorstep. Ergo China wants to take control of Taiwan.
On of the roots of the problem lies in the National Palace Museum in Taipei. Chang Kai-shek, rescued the treasures from Beijing during the Chinese civil war and thus saved from certain destruction during the Cultural revolution. China wants them back, and she can't have them as things stand.
The US wants a western style democracy on the doorstep of China that they can use as a watchtower/strategic position should it ever become needed.
For Taiwan to move away from democracy and the principles of democracy is therefore both unwise and foolhardy. Any lurch towards undemocratic government would in the long run only end up in their assimilation back into China following the withdrawl of US carrier protection.
Local politics in a fledgling democracy are apt to be noisy and lively - you should be grateful that people care enough to protest and march - when they stop doing that, that's when you have to start worrying!

Taiwan is a democracy. It's just going through these crazy phases where the opposition party is trying to oust the president for political reasons.

We consider Taiwan to be one our better friends in the world. We keep a US fleet near constantly to help defend Taiwan in case China ever tries to attack. As far as politics our politicians don't listen to the people either. Either Party. And the Republicans tried to get rid of Clinton and now the Democrats want to get rid of Bush. Don't worry it's the same everywhere
