Welcome to motherhood. Most children don't get over the hand to mouth stage until they are around two or three. It is perfectly normal, she is experiencing new things and the best way she knows how is to taste it. Don't worry, anything that is really bad tasting she will spit out. It is a great way for her to learn, so let her explore and be free as long as you watch her she will be fine.

Um, have you actually looked in the toy aisle?
Do you think maybe the "Not intended for children under the age of 3" or "3+" or "Not for children under 3. Contains small parts" might mean that children put things in their mouths beyond 16 months?
She sounds like a normal 16 month old to me. They don't really grow out of it for several years. Even beyond age 3, they will choke on things like marbles, toy parts, coins, you name it. If you'd read up on child development you'd know the oral stage lasts approximately 3 years, which is why some doctors allow kids to have pacifyers up to age 3.
They put everything in their mouth to explore what it is with the most sensitive part of their body. As a parent, you really should be aware of this. It's quite scary you'd think she'd get over this when she's just hitting the high point of it. I suppose in a few months you'll be wondering why she's throwing tantrums.
You should be a parent and read up on your baby's developmental stages.
You should make sure none of her teeth are chipped or broken and if they are take her to the pediatrician so he can decide if she needs dental intervention, then refer you if necessary.
You NEED TO KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR BABY, above all else. Accidents are the #1 killer of children under 3, and the #1 cause of that is parents not watching or interacting with their babies/toddlers.

Tell her no-no when she does it and then give her a toy. Eventually she will catch on. I've heard that it's how some babies explore and find out what new things are. My son is 8 months and puts everything in his mouth. I've got 3 kids my first 2 never put anything they shouldn't in their mouths.
She will outgrow the stage eventually but instead of just telling her no make sure you hand her something she can have.
Good Luck

My daughter was still sticking stuff in her mouth until she was about 2 years old. Now she is 5 and sometimes she puts things like used gum in her mouth, (disgusting) now I just punish her for it. What I used to do is make sure there was nothing around on the floor or within reach that she liked to put in her mouth. Usually it was like small things, marbles, rocks, etc.

My son is 16 months old and he also puts everything in his mouth. He has a full mouth of teeth already so I know he is not teething. I just think he has to give everything the taste test to see if it's any good, and it doesn't matter what it is. I take whatever it is that he has in his mouth and I firmly tell him yucky, that don't belong in your mouth. Then I'll replace it with a sippy cup and tell him that he can put it in his mouth. Usually he is ok with his sippy cup.

it is normal and some never stop even as an adult.use a pacifier.as you take an object away say-no-then give a pacifier and say good girl with a smile and hug.a child should be watched more often when placed on the floor.

relax then promise yourself to stop worrying about her exploration of the world unless she is still doing this when she is getting ready to go to university. If she is still doing that then I would sit her down and have a little chat. At least she has strong teeth!

That's not unusual. Kids will put anything in their mouths. That's why parents have to watch them so closely.
