The stomach has a super thick lining of mucus that constantly replenishes itself. That's it.

The peptic acid generated in the stomach aids digestion and breaking down of certain proteins.

The stomach has an epithelial lining, a protective membrane which is quite resistant to corrosion by these acids, that constantly regenerate if some cells do get corroded.

However, if you skip meals, or have an unhealthy diet, or smoke , reactions could cause acidity which would cause corrosion and lead to ulcer formations.

Mucous membrane, although it replaces itself completely once every few days not 3 to 4 times a day as in the original post. It is constantly regenerating and deterorating but the cell life cycle is only a couple days. They are some of your bodies most active cells in mitosis.

Edit to Below Post:

It isn't dilute, your stomach has a pH of about 2. It is very dangerous if those acids were to get into the rest of your body. And drinking water might change the pH slightly but it will not neutralize the acid like you stated.

Our stomach contains Gastric Hcl... It helps in digetsion of food.. It does corrode the inner walls of the stomach which might lead to ulser when you dont consume sufficient food.. Food by nature will contain carbohydrates, fats, proteins and some vitamins and minerals ... when this food containing so many things reacts with Hcl and is digested easily...

The lining cells of stomach are covered by a very thick layer of mucus which is also secreted by the lining cells. Mucus protects the stomach lining cells in 2 ways. One, it acts as a physical barrier to acid; two, it also contains bicarbonate ions to neutralise the acid.

The body has hormones which secretes thick mucous lining in the stomach. This mucous lining protects the stomach from being damaged with the hydrochloric acid it secretes for digestion.

It is present in dilute form and even there are some bases which neutralise the presence hence thy are not dangerous. due to this reason people are advised to take more amount of water so as to neutralise this action.
