Cognitive changes. Stress is usually associate with negative thoughts. To make stress work for you, make them possitive thoughts or even turn stress into a game with rewards.
Perfect example, I panic when exams come around, so I say to myself, "Meg! You are going to read your text book chapters about psychopathology, and when you are done, you may take a bubble bath." or something silly like that. Works wonders.

Stress itself is potentially enough to motivate you. There are no good effects to feeling stressed, so in order to get rid of the stress, you eliminate the cause of the stress. Whether that means cleaning up your room, paying your bills, working to pay off debt, the potential to eliminate the stress could be just the motivator. If you think about how nice it'll be not to have stress and the burden that it brings with it, you might find that that'll motivate you!

the only way i've ever been able to make it work for me is like when i have a deadline to get something done. Like for example i might know that my landlord will be here in a week so then i work really hard to make sure the place is cleaned up nice before he shows up. But it only works in situations like that where i have a deadline and only because i seem to work well when i'm under pressure usually.

I very rarely feel stressed and I wish i felt it more often... honestly.
Because when you are stressed you want to get things done you just have to refocus your enrgy... think if solutions instead of repeating the problem in your mind again and again and again
