Simple First the girl was a very popular pageant contestant and winner in her area. Second her father was very well known and rich. Third it was a very horrific case that happened on Christmas. Fourth it was a case everyone believed the parents were involved and now someone came forward.
It is a shame they give some cases such a big coverage, I wish there were no cases like this to give coverage too. In the Media it is what will bring the biggest amount of viewers and when you have even a small celebrity they will take it to make the bucks..

What really disturbs me is how the parent's reputation was destroyed. What happened to innocent unil proven guilty? I think people were quick to blame because putting a six year old child in beauty contests doesn't seem normal and healthy, but murder is a whole other can of fish. I think envy of the rich was part of it to, and most of all just all these pretty and kind of bizarre pictures of the little girl in make up. Another example is the Laci Peterson case. There are probably hundreds of similar cases, all equally tragic, but she happened to be attractive so it made good copy. Also, when you here something over and over again, you start to believe it's important and pay attention.

I think the JonBenet Ramsey murder was a fairly ordinary case. It was very tragic and sad, but so are thousands of others. I think the media just ran with this one and created a self fulfilling hysteria. Maybe that happens when the news people find a quiet day and they need to fill it.

I think that's because this case has been unresolved for a long time and then they finally arrested someone, so the media talked about it.... The media can't talk about all the murder cases that have occurred because that would be like far too many. So, it just talked about those unusual ones such as this case that involves a beauty queen which has gone unsolved for a decade and then finally someone was caught ...

Part of it had to do with the time of the year it happened, around Christmas (I can't remember exactly what day it was, sorry), a traditionally slow period when it comes to news. Toss in the beauty pageant thing, something very controversial even before this case, and you have all the elements that the public seems to love when it comes to crime.

I was wondering that myself today. All I can think of is that she was a very pretty little girl with lots of pictures and videos taken of her in pagents and the like and it somehow captured Americans attention (or the medias). PLus the family seemed wealthy.

Im sorry if I sound racist but whenever it is a darling little white girl the story seems to live on forever just like the Polly Klass case or is it that most sexual predators are white?

i think its because she was a well known and loved beauty queen. plus its because of the way she was killed. they will never find her killer and i think they really need to put the case to a lost cause and let the girl just rest in peace
