I would give it right back.

First reason is because that's the way I was brought up.

Second reason is because the cashier will have to make up the difference, some lose their jobs over it.

Yes,

For instance,

I had a cashier give me a 50 in place of a 5 while making change for fuel, I didn't notice until the next morning 200+ miles away...I stopped on my way back the next day and returned the $45 difference. The cashier thanked me. At the end of her shift the previous night she was $45 dollars short, her boss thought she was skimming from her register drawer and the truckstop's policy was to take the money from the employee's payroll, so had I kept the $45 I'd have been taking from the cashier, not the truckstop chain, and it may have put her job in jeopardy had I not been honest..

A few Christmas's ago, I was faced with such a conundrum...my son and I were out shopping at one of the Malls and we were making our way back to the car when I noticed a standard bank envelope in the parking lot.

Well, much to my amazement upon opening it... there was $3,500.00 in cash (large bills). Needless to say I thought of all the nice and wonderful things I could buy for my family.

My son looked at me and asked if we could keep it...Lord knows I wanted to. But I looked into my son's eye's and I new then I was being tested by a higher power.

With that kind of money my son and I reasoned that there were probably a lot of kids and loved ones that would go without Christmas that year.

I found the bank receipt in the envelope contacted the bank and returned the money with my son....the praise and adulation alone was incredible, "but the look on my son's face was priceless."

We still reminisce about the incident, and it gives me such pride to see my son always trying to do the right thing.

Footnote: We were offered half of the money as a reward, but I turned it down. " I did however, accept a reward of $500.00."

I used to take it back no matter how much it was. but one time I took it back and the person got fired for making a mistake.
So now I ask them twice if it is the correct change before I leave the store and if they say yes to me both times, i go on and don't worry about it. If I leave the store and don't notice it until later, I just don't do anything about it. I felt so rotten about that girl getting fired. I tell you it just was not worth the 2 dollars I was over paid.

If I catch it , I do because I don't want the cashier to come up short at the end of the day-and I'd also hate to be the one shorted on my end . I was buying shoes a few mos. ago ; and the cashier was behaving like a know-it-all .When she gave me an extra dollar , I actually had to convince her she gave me too much back . About the 3rd time , it registered . I had to chuckle to myself as I walked away. It felt better than getting ticked off at her .

Yes! I've been known to put my 50 cents in a paper machine..accidently pull out 2 papers. Then when I got back to my car and realized what I had done, I found 50 more cents put it in the machine..opened the door and shut it. A man stood there looking at me like I had lost my mind. Ahh well, i'm big on honesty.

If I realized it before I left the store then yes. But if I had gotten all the way home and then realized it then no I would not go all the way back to return it.

It may be MY lucky day but it won't be when the cashier gets his/her till counted and that person is short. That person could get fired or written up. I would take it back but quiety mention to the person that he/she gave me too much.

It depends if the clerk was a total ***** or if I'm really needy on money or if I feel like it.It also depends on how much money that is. I've taken the money back , but I've also kept it on other occasions.

Once a young female teller at the Bank gave me an extra $100.00 I counted it three or four times in my car. I brought it back in and her boss noticed. After that I didn't see her again. Wasn't that nice of me?
