I do not want to hear the answers of "this country because it is" type answers...

I'll give you which one I think is.

I think that Ireland is one of the most progressive countries because it has come from the status of being a "third world" country to one of the most progressive counties in the European Union and in the world. Once Northern Ireland joins their political and way of life, they'll probably be better off than the US is.

ooo I must be a communist for not believing in the US, parish the thought. I'm sorry but I've seen a bit of this world and that's why I pose the question, not to throw a biased USA rant..

I spent time with the foreign affairs in Ireland about the movements that Ireland is doing to get Northern Ireland up to their standards and it is do-able.

As of now, the UK does not see any reason why to keep Northern Ireland as its only bringing down their economy.

Honestly, i think Japan is.

They recovered from a terrible war, picked themselves up and built an economy that was unlike any other. Now they have a healthcare system that is far superior to anything in America, they don’t spend all their taxes on military. You don’t need a car because of the excellent bus and train transport system. The people are so kind and very open minded to others cultures. Separation of church and state is an inviolable law, and has caused their last prime minister to step down just for mentioning that Japan is "Gods Country"
I wish we stick to that in America, might actually help get evangelist out of office.

Anyways, I’m in the process of immigrating. America is filled with a bunch of flag waiving zombies. I like America, but free speech is only free speech when I talk about how great the Bush club is. Anything else will get you labeled as a terrorist, traitor, etc.

did i mention there is virtually no crime here? great place to raise kids.

nearly 90% of everything is recyled too. there is a convienent stor on every block, what is not to love?

I feel as if it is Japan, although China is too. But the thing with China is that it may be growing rapidly and much faster but at the same time, their is going to be a lot of hurdles down the road for China because of its huge population. For example: By 2050 China will have to create almost a billion jobs just to support its people and keeping the majority of the population over the poverty line. So Japan in my mind is doing a good job. Also the United States is still growing ever more powerful. But if you think about it Japan, the United States, and the United Kingdom are all allies -- so it benefits us all.

Finland, Very progressve legislation on women's rights, first country in Europe where women gained the vote. President is a woman as are half the cabinet, They recognise the rights of the Lapps (the Sami people) and the Romany people as regards their right to use and be taught their language.

And the constitution is strong on human rights. They will not allow anyone to be deported from Finland to a country where they could face cruel or barbarous treatment.

I think the whole of the EU is better off than the USA - I've lived in both and the citizens of the USA are the most un-free of the modern western nations. Americans, however, are by far the most kind and friendly I've met and it is a pity that their trusting natures are so abused by politicians that they actually wind up believing the lies and spin.

Iceland is a pretty progressive country. They put high importance in their educational system and don't tolerate idiocy to infiltrate acedemia.

If the US took that approach we'd be doing a lot better. Instead we elect a man that thrives on idiocy and tries to spread it around like a virus.

According to world economic forum's stats, Finland tops them all.

But I think theres much more to know about a country's policies, before you can pose a judgement.
