A Liberal believes that people should have the right to do as they please as long as it doesn't interfere with the rights of others. Liberal beliefs on economics tend to lean towards the redistribution of wealth from the richer classes to the poorer classes, and more socialized programs sponsored with tax dollars for the people (such as welfare, medical).
A Conservative believes that people should be governed by a strict code of morality, and thus the view is that many unnatural things people may wish to do yet are seen as immoral from a religious stand point should not be permitted (such as gay marriage, abortion) Conservative beliefs on economics tend to lean towards the least government interference possible, and caring for the lower classes of people by assuring equality of opportunities as oppose to direct handouts. The general view being that people are capable of taking care of themselves if justice is preserved and that people should be personally accountable for their own actions.
