No, that is just how much more weight you will have to loose after the Baby! It's not the amount of food It's the KIND of food that you eat while preg. that help or hurt the Baby!!
First time Mom, there are no "stupid " questions!
Stay away from salts and sugars!!

Not a stupid question at all. It's not so much how much you eat because some people eat a lot and don't gain weight. It's more how much weight you gain when pregnant.

So actually there is a bit of truth to that - the more you gain the more likely the baby is to be big also and vice versa. If a woman is malnourished, she can keep her weight gain low and have a small baby. In fact, not long ago in the 50's and 60's women were encouraged to *smoke* because it kept their weight down and they had smaller babies! No kidding! They were restricted to gaining 15 lbs during pregnancies and kept on strict diets. Ask someone who gave birth during that timeframe and they will tell you it's true.

Women who gain a lot of weight during pregnancy *may* tend to have larger babies. Women who start out overweight but gain the recommended weight are not the same, I'm talking about women who start out normal and gain a ton of weight. This is not always true, every time, but it's a trend. Diabetics including gestational diabetics tend to have larger babies because they have carbohydrate intolerance which makes them have a lot of sugar running around and babies get chunkier and have trouble after birth regulating their own blood sugar.

Normal weight gain for a singleton pregnancy is recommended to be 25-35 lbs now. I gained about 20-30 with all three of mine and I tried to watch what I ate so it was easy for me to lose it all without too much effort by the time baby was 3 months old. You should enjoy yourself during pregnancy, eat well, but it's not a license to pig out and eat everything in sight!

I don't think that is true at all. I know of moms who were obese and became pregnant and their babies sometimes come out like 7 lbs. - on the light side. My sister in law who is so perfect in everything she does gave birth to a 10 lb boy. I think that it depends more on the baby's genes and metabolism than how much you eat. Although - early in development baby needs lots of folic acid to close up that spinal cord and nueral tube. You can affect the health of your baby by what you eat - and alcohol and smoking have long been known to be associated with low birth weight and premature babies and even SIDS.

The only stupid question is the one that doesn't get asked. You will be more hungry, so you will eat more. However, it will not affect to as whether the baby will be heavier. a great book to help you through this wonderful period in your life is "What to expect when you're expecting". It explains everything that is happening to you and wonderful practical advise as to what to do about several things. But most of all, enjoy your pregnancy! Congrats!

No...You need to eat only enough to fill you up. Your baby will tell you know when he/she will want something. If you over eat it will be harder for you to lose the weight. Ever see someone who had a baby a year ago,and it still looks like she is pregnant even though you know she isn't. Exercise and eat good. Lost of vegetables, fruits, and milk..Then rest and enjoy pregnancy.

No. Your baby doesn't start putting on 'fat' until the end of the third trimester. Until then he/she is nothing but skin and bones. Just eat healthy and your baby will be fine.

Don't gain too much weight in the beginning b/c you'll start putting on a lot of weight fast in the last trimester.
