Fickle?

The French are still feeling great guilt because of the happenings in WW!! They put all their money into a great Wall to stop the Germany Army if it invaded, but the days of Wall were over in WWI.
Then, part of the French thought it would be best to cooperate this the Nazi. That was major mistake. Of course, the French cooperation with shipping Jewish people out of France and into Poland and Germany. I don't know if the French knew what was happening to the Jewish people, but it was wrong just to around them up and throw them out of their Country.
Then the French also have Empire guilt. They were not happy Imperialist's. They tortured and killed many innocent people.
So I think those are some of the reason for the French dispositions since WWII.
That being said, the French Government during the World War II decided to stand up and be their own people and take care of themselves without needing other to till them what to do.
That private journey through rough waters, and the fact that they are at and heart of Europe is what makes them so indispensable to modern day governance and world affairs. The French are a great and noble people, but they make mistakes just like America and every other people do at times.

Well, I think that they are not so fickle but they act in a way that you do not expect. They preffer to say "no" to a fellow country than to accept something against their thought. Just as US, in fact...

They are exceedingly overtolerant; in other wordst hey want to accomidate everyone. The reality is that no matter what you do someone will be pissed at you. You cant make everyone happy, its a fact of life.

It's the nature of multi-party parliamentary democracy. They're all like that. And just look at places where they have proportional representation or transferable votes.
