The incomparable Jean-Jacques Burnel. Without a doubt the most melodic and dramatic bassist ever to grace a stage. His riffs are the stuff of legend, his speed, agility and sheer power unmatched. His "lead bass" style was counterpointed by a slashing rhythm guitar (Hugh Cornwell) and complimented by soaring keyboard runs from Dave Greenfield and one of the punchiest drummers since John Henry Bonham, Jet Black. If you've never checked out Rattus Norvegicus IV or No More Heroes, Black and White or The Raven albums (by The Stranglers), then do yourselves a huge favour and marvel in awe at the sheer excellence. JJ was voted best bassist 6 years running in the NME from 76 - 82.

The only person ever to come close to him was Bruce Foxton of the Jam.

Flea from RHCP- Crazy Fast with his riffs, always creative.
Mike Herrara from MxPX- Never seen somebody do a 360 spin while their bass was 10 feet in the air above their head, then catch it and keep playin like he did.
Dan Andriano from Alkaline Trio- Creative, original, amazing.
