Americans never smile. We are always pissed off. We haul our fat asses around in air conditioned suv's while sucking down fast food yet we are still unhappy. Starving Africans smile more than Americans. I see poor kids on tv grinning ear to ear when the find a good stick to play with. We are doing something wrong.

Sometimes it can seem as if the whole world is one big snarling pit, but usually it's that we only see reflections of what we ourselves are feeling and the rest fades into the background. Sometimes it depends on what area of the country you live in as well. I recently moved to near Chicago from Colorado and people here are much more stressed out, angry and unfriendly than in CO. I'm a "smiley" sort of person by nature, but living in this depressing area, with its steel mill pollution and unhappy residents takes it toll from time to time. Yeah, we're Americans, we're spoiled, no getting away from that. Traveling to another country and seeing true hardship can make us appreciate what we have in a hurry.

Most Americans nowdays are not smiling because we are worried, some of us are happy in our lives, but most of us don't know if tomorrow our son or daughter might be called to war, and so we have the SUV's and the nice homes, we'd give everything away to have our children safe. I can't say the same thing for many other countries, especially in the Mid East.

Excuse me? American's are humorous people according to many people I have spoken to from outside the country.Humor usually involves a smile. I think you live in a place where it is a "rat race" and then you will see less smiles.

Good Point. I went to Peru and experienced the same thing. These people are bathing out of buckets and washing clothes by hand and fetching water everyday for their toilets, cooking and bathing and they are the happiest people.

There are people here that walk around with a major chip on their shoulder and half of those people don't know what it's like to be without.

Good point!

Speak for yourself buddy!!!! Why don't smile at someone else and see if they smile back. Smiles are contagious. Nobody can smile 100% of the time your cheeks would hurt and just think of the wrinkles it would cause.

No, you are not seeing all of us. I am very happy, and so is the rest of my family. We smile, laugh and have a good time. Americans have the potential to do what they want to do... and I choose to be happy.

I wouldn't agree that we're doing something wrong. Do you think your opinion is a little too narrow?... TV images??? Come on.! Put a little balance into your perspective and re-think this thing. American kids like to play with sticks, too.

try smiling at others. most times if they see you smiling at them, they will smile back. i do this a lot.

i think about the problems in our world a lot and realize how lucky i am to have the freedoms that i have. in many countries women are killed for things most of us american women do without even thinking about it.

SMILE AMERICA, WE HAVE A LOT TO BE GRATEFUL FOR!!!
