I agree with a previous poster to seek familial, professional or pastoral counseling. Being a mother is the most loving and unselfish thing you will ever do. Every action you take will affect your precious baby. Be careful and do not drink again. If you are feeling depressed it's time to get the help you need, before you harm your baby.

You really need to talk to your Dr about this. There is no known safe level of alcohol during pregnancy, but even if there was a safe level, I'm sure 1/2 a bottle of vodka would exccede that by a lot. Of course there is a chance your baby could still be born healthy, but it sounds like you just gave your baby Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. FAS causes developmental delays amoung other things. It doesn't nessacarily show up at birth, but can show up at pretty much any time during childhood or even adollecance.

This doesn't mean that you should just keep drinking. Like I said, there is still a chance that your baby could be totally ok. So please don't drink again until your baby is born. And even then, don't drink that much alcohol at one time. That's just not healthy for anyone, pregnant or not.

Omg please don't do that again. I personally didn't have a drink with either one of my pregnancies but my ex-mother in law did when she was pregnant with my ex-husband. She drank little bits here and little bits there thinking that "once in awhile" is okay. Well it wasn't and my ex-husband was born with fetal alcohol syndrome! He only weighed 2 lbs 5 oz and he was extremely red and unhealthy. To this day he has had learning disabilities all his life and he is basically stupid! (Not saying that just because he's my ex) Did you tell your doctor of what happened? I hope so and explain the cause of what made you want to drink. If it's depression then they can put you on an anti-depressant that is safe for pregnancies! If it were only like a glass of wine or A beer I'd say you and the little one would be fine but honey you drank a half a bottle of vodka!!!! That's not A drink and you need to discuss is with your OB. Tell him/her that now your scared and they can find out if that baby is okay or help treat it if it's not. If you have questions please e-mail me at

I'll try to help ya out best as I can. I'm currently 9 and 1/2 pregnant now with my daughter.

To ScarlettRose- Any amount of alcohol can damage a fetus. The statement you made about if it can't hurt you it cant hurt the baby is wrong. If not then what is fetal alcohol syndrome? I teach special ed and do you know how many kids are in my classes because their mothers drank or did drugs while pregnant? It is SOO dangerous! Especially if you drink a half a bottle of vodka at once! If your child is fine then you got lucky, and I'm very happy he is ok, but drinking while pregnant is NOT ok, it can hurt the baby, and it most certainly can hurt you! Moderation is not the answer- the babies liver is not developed enough yet to filter out the toxins. I read one of your other posts and your so concerned about what you feed your baby- fresh organics and such, but you drank while pregnant? Now that's hypocratic!

Just because someone else claims they had a healthy baby after drinking alcohol which is similar to drinking and driving, does not mean you will have a healthy baby.

You probably are aware that it is wrong to consume drugs that are not prescribed by a doctor, narcotics and alcohol while pregnant.

Just because you were depressed that was not a valid reason to drink a half bottle of alcohol that you poored down your face and you baby also felt the effects of that alcohol as well.

I pray for that baby, not for you that he or she is OK. If anyone has it in their right mind, they should call CPS on you. That is a form of child abuse.

I suggest you read and educate yourself about drinking and being pregnant. It is just as bad as drinking and driving.

I seriously hope that you are joking. You didn't just have a drink, you had half a bottle of vodka! You might have a Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Baby...please go to your OBGYN and tell them, there might be something that they can do to help you. PLEASE....if you get depressed in the future, find someone to help you, don't turn to the bottle! I am praying for you and your baby.

Why? did you care about your babies health when you had that half a bottle no. It's never good to drink while your pregnant you already knew that you just feel bad and want to know if anyone else has every done that so you won't feel bad about drinking while pregnant.

The chances of your baby being healthy, actually still on the ok side..If you have only done this once... But If you continue to do this to your child, well you could end up losing him/her...Still born, or something more serious...But if you are Depressed don't drink your problems away because they will still be there, and your child may not...Think about it!!!

Is great at sports and drawing! I sure had a angel looking over my son!! STUPID idea to drink or do drugs while pregnant!! If I could turn back time I'd kick my own a*s!!!!!!!!!

It does not matter that you were depressed... you should have talked to a friend instead of trying to kill your unborn by drowning it in alcohol. People who drink and do drugs while they are pregnant don't deserve to have a baby. People spend thousands of dollars everyday just trying to get pregnant. There are women out there who have been trying to conceive for years with no success... who would love to be pregnant at this very moment... and you abused the privilege. You disgust me!!
