Everyone knows that neither of these two groups will fight, disarm, nor expel Hezbollah from Southern Lebanon. What is the point of this whole recent conflict? Nothing has been solved at all. As long as there is a group committed to the destruction of Israel on the edge of Israel’s boarder their will be conflict. It may be months to years but this is going to really blow up again, and maybe next time a whole lot worse.

sophieb, they should. the last time peace keeper were sent to Lebanon without any bullets they were mass murdered. I believe no "peace keepers" should go to Lebanon unless they are commited to fight Hezbollah if necessary to rid them from the south.

lottyjoy, What you cited may indeed be true but good luck having it enforced by the lebanese of the U.N. for that matter. As far as I'm concerned that excerpt is literally a paper tiger and in the end war will break out again.

Happy!, Lebanon had it's chance 20 or so years ago not to allow Hezbollah in but unfortunately there was too much sympathy which allowed a foriegn constructed militia to take partial control. Look what the States have done to prevent states within states. Anyone remember Waco Texas.

It looks as though the Lebanese will HAVE TO get rid of Hezbollah, or be in contravention of the agreement. Here is an excerpt:

pursuant to the Lebanese cabinet decision of July 27, 2006, there will be no weapons or authority in Lebanon other than that of the Lebanese state;
>No foreign forces in Lebanon without the consent of its government;
>No sales or supply of arms and related materiel to Lebanon except as authorized by its government;

Maybe you should pose these questions to the Israeli government and see what they have to say. I think they ended their battle because they realized that they couldn't win. Hezbollah gave them a much tougher fight than expected.

Yes sure, it can blow up again because Hezbollah is still there, but this time it's going to be because Israel let them stay, not Lebanon. This makes me wonder how strong was Lebanon really to even consider ridding Hezbollah. As far as I know, after all that has happened with Lebanon in the past, it does not have a very stable government or strong military. Israel however has a more stable government and one of the greatest militaries. If after all of the destruction and lives lost Israel couldn't get rid of Hezbollah then why does anyone criticize Lebanon for Hezbollah's existence? I think if given a real choice and the power (a powerful government and military), Lebanon wouldn't have allowed Hezbollah to exist.

We should always go back and remember why Hezbollah was formed in the first place. Evil breeds evil. People will side with their lesser of two evils. People are not born evil. Their circumstances can cause them to do evil things. This should be acknowledged by both sides. It's this lack of understanding that allows the war(s) in that region to go on and on and on and on.....

We should also remember that we will never really know the whole story. That's just the nature of that business.

As long as Israel is there to bully its neighbors, and make mockery of all the UN resolutions, try to impose its will on the innocent palestinians, try to usurup the rights of other nations, try to control the region with its USA supplied weapons, and keeping a large arsenal of nuclear bombs, and other kinds of weapons of mass destruction. This region will never see peace. It seems this part of the world is condemned forever. Israelis should repent, and pray to get some kind of wisdom , so these kinds of calamities that fell upon its people from time to time in the history are not repeated again. The myth of the chosen people is the biggest hurdle that the Israelis had to cross to overcome their differences with other nations. The loss of innocent lives on both side, and the most recent destruction that Israel caused in Lebanon did not serve any solid purpose to the future of Israel.
