Well, for starters, I know its sad, but two years is actually a good chunk of time in this industry. I bought a 'desktop replacement' noteboko awhile back. total waste of cash. I later built a computer that blows its doors off, yet its too hot/heavy to use on my lap. As far as something you can do to fix it...... sometimes the fans can get dusty in some lines of notebooks and that reduces the fan efficiency, increasing the temperature a bit. But honestly, on your next notebook purchase, I recommend going for a thin-and-light or ultraportable model.

Don't use it on a plush surface (i.e. pillow, blanket, anything that will prevent air from getting underneath or on the side)
You could also blow out the heatsink and fan unit which is usually located in the back and side of the laptop (you'll see holes, or grates, where the air can flow in and out). Dust can build up to the point that it will overheat.
Other than that, laptops will always run a little hot, it's just the way they're built. So many parts in such a little space.

I also have a Dell Laptop, and it gets hot, (also not of recall), there is a website out there that has a temp gauge/ fan control tool that you could use, sorry I don't know the link.
Just type fanGUI into yahoo or google.

i have a laptop but mine is a gateway, whenever mine got hot i took out the battery, the harddrive and the cd rom drive to cool down, maybe you should that, if you leave it on for days it can get really hot, so you need to shut it down and remove everything as possible and just let is cool down for a day then put everything back and start it up....

you can even use a couple of soda caps to prop up the back end of the laptop to help with the airflow of the fans in the Dells.

You need a cooler It goes under your computer and plugs in to the usb port it has two fans built in to it and blows air up into the computer. I had the same problem with my older micron laptop and it would freeze up.
